Whitlock’s menu a hit with Democrats

Barbara Whitlock came out of retirement to donate a catered dinner for eight as a silent auction item for a fundraiser of the Fayette County Democratic Party. Eleanor Sutter, U.S. Senior Foreign Service (Ret.), was the lucky bidder and she hosted the dinner at her home on Saturday.

Whitlock researched the menu and recipes from the January 20 luncheon at the Capitol attended by President, Barack Obama, after his inauguration and adapted them for a group of Lexington friends. “Her adaptation included the very champagne President Obama and his wife drank to toast his announcement of his candidacy, and again to celebrate his clinching the Democratic Party nomination,” Sutter said.

Guests included David O’Neill, Property Valuation Administrator for Lexington/Fayette County; Linda Breathitt, an energy consultant; Karl Raitz,  Kentucky geographer and University of Kentucky professor, and his wife Carol, retired director of UK food services; Susan Ohle, an artist visiting from Fredericksburg, VA; Betty Gabehart, former director of the Kentucky Women Writers Conference; and writer and retired U.S. diplomat Will Sutter.

Table service was provided by Ann Garrity, former chair of The Women’s Network, Fayette County Branch, and her husband, UK professor Tom Garrity.
Here’s Whitlock’s adaptation of President Obama’s Inaugural luncheon.
