Smoke is billowing at City Barbeque. The chain’s second Kentucky location is scheduled to open Friday at 3292 Richmond Road.
Since opening in 1999 in Columbus, Ohio, City Barbeque has received many awards including Best Barbeque in Columbus and Dayton, Ohio; Best Rib and Best Pulled Chicken in Cincinnati; and Best Tailgate Fare by Ohio Magazine.
The menu offers North Carolina-style pulled pork, beef brisket and pulled chicken. St. Louis-style ribs are slow smoked over aged hickory wood. Every Tuesday is Rib Bone Tuesday, when each rib bone is $1.15. Sides and desserts are prepared in house.

■ Double H BBQ is a new spot that’s open for lunch at 1244 Versailles Road, next to O’Reilly’s AutoParts. Owned by brothers Ernie and Bill Hanley, the restaurant serves hand-rubbed, hickory-smoked pulled pork, brisket, baby back ribs and tenderloin, prepared on site. ■ A new pizza place, Extreme Pizza, is open at 2304 Sir Barton Way in Hamburg Place. The San Francisco-based chain is mostly on the West Coast. “This is the first of its kind to open in Kentucky,” said Lexington franchise owner Vince Swecker. “If you check out the menu you will notice that there are many styles of pizzas, subs, wings and salads available that are not often seen at other pizza restaurants.
