Akielo Temple Egyptian Band’s fall tea is Sunday

Greentree Tearoom’s menu for October features the flavors of autumn. Bourbon n’ Toulouse, 829 Euclid Avenue, will be making a big pot of alligator étouffée in honor of the football game on Saturday when the University of Kentucky Wildcats play the Florida Gators at Commonwealth Stadium.
The gator étouffée will be served beginning at 11 a.m. Friday.   “We only make this delicious dish a few times a year and it is always a huge hit,” co-owner Kevin Heathcoat said. Holly Hill Inn in Midway is celebrating the harvest season with a dinner buffet inspired by Mediterranean flavors at 6 p.m. Saturday. Wilson Farms is holding its 10th annual shrimp harvest at 11 a.m. Saturday. Ponds are located near Lancaster. From Lancaster, take Hwy. 52 west toward Danville. Turn on Hwy. 1150. ■  Furlongs, 130 West Tiverton Way, now opens at noon on Saturday and is offering a Louisiana brunch beginning at noon on Sunday. Menu included poached eggs on crab cake; spinach and lump crab meat omelets, chicken étouffée over poached eggs on a waffle. Furlongs is closed on Monday.
Furlongs’ owner Tommy Walters said he and his daughters,  Emilee Walters Sierp and Haylee Walters, now have a food truck, CrazyBoutCajun. The menu will include:  jambalaya, shrimp po’boys, boudin, and red beans and rice. Call (859) 913-5611.
■ Winners of the fourth annual Bluegrass Pizza Bake-Off are: DiOrio’s Pizza & Pub in Louisville, first place; Puccini’s Smiling Teeth in Lexington, second place; and Papalino’s in Louisville, third place. The DiOrio’s team wins a trip to Italy to compete on the U.S. Pizza team.
The event, sponsored by local restaurant equipment supply company Pizzaovens.com, was held earlier this month at
the Fifth-Third Pavilion at Cheapside Park.

First Watch now open on Richmond Road

Lexington has plenty of places to grab lunch, but when it comes to breakfast, there aren’t as many choices. First Watch, a breakfast, brunch, and lunch café, now is open at 3071 Richmond Road, in the Kroger shopping plaza.

■ The annual Moon Festival Celebration will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the Moondance Amphitheater in the Beaumont Centre Circle. The event, sponsored by the Kentucky Chinese American Association and the Beaumont Centre Family YMCA, will feature live entertainment and a “Best fresh moon cakes” contest. Midway School Bakery, 510 South Winter Street in Midway, is preparing a traditional honey cake in honor of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. Honey cakes are made with local honey from Midway, Weisenberger Mill flours, and spiced with cinnamon and applesauce. Cakes will be available Saturday through Sept. 25, the beginning of Yom Kippur.
